Status today — not live
Korat does not yet have a self-serve gateway payment system (cards / installments / e-wallets) for shops to sign up for inside the app. This is not an open-ended "coming soon" — the team is actively building the pieces this needs (connecting a shop's account to a provider, tracking payment status in real time), and it isn't finished. Tapping the button in the app today opens the contact page — the team will follow up with you, this is not an automatic sign-up form. Provider onboarding links expire and are tied to one account each, so they can't be guessed or cached ahead of time; they can only be issued per-shop by the system at the moment of real sign-up.
How shops get paid today
Shops set up their own payment channels in the app's business console — PromptPay and a shop bank account number. Customers transfer money and attach a slip in chat or on the order page. The shop reviews the slip and confirms payment itself — there is no bank integration yet to confirm this automatically.
Money lands in the shop's own bank account directly and immediately when the customer transfers — Korat never touches that money, not even for a second, and takes no cut (GP) from this kind of sale at all. This is a deliberate decision by the team, not a temporary limitation waiting to change.
What a "gateway" is, and how it differs from today
A gateway means connecting to an external payment provider (accepting credit/debit cards, installments, or e-wallets) so a customer can pay in one step instead of transferring and waiting for the shop to check a slip. Once available:
- Orders will switch to "paid" automatically — the shop won't have to check slips one by one
- Money still lands directly in the shop's own account, not Korat's, just as it does today — only routed through the gateway provider instead of a direct transfer
- Transaction fees belong to the gateway provider, not a fee that Korat sets or adds on top
- PromptPay/bank transfer that a shop already set up keeps working as-is — a gateway is an additional option, not a replacement
Korat will never ask a shop for its gateway API key
Never send a gateway secret API key (Stripe, Omise, 2C2P, etc.) to anyone claiming to be Korat staff — not by chat, email, or phone. Korat staff will never ask a shop for this. When gateway onboarding is live, connecting a shop's account happens through an onboarding link issued by the gateway provider itself, and the shop fills in details directly with that provider — Korat never sees or stores a shop's secret key on our side. If anyone contacts you asking for this information claiming to be Korat, assume it is a scam and report it via the contact page right away.
Korat is not a payment intermediary for shops
Both today and once a gateway is live, money from a customer goes directly to the shop's account — Korat does not act as a middleman that collects money on a shop's behalf and forwards it on. If that model ever changed to Korat collecting payment on a shop's behalf and deducting a cut (GP) before forwarding it, that would fall under services requiring a license from the Bank of Thailand — that is not today's model, and it will not change to that without notice.
Frequently asked questions
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What happens when I tap "Sign up" in the app? | It opens the contact page — the team will follow up to discuss your shop's details. It is not an automatic sign-up that completes instantly. |
| Can I sign up for a gateway right now? | Not yet — the underlying system isn't finished. The team will announce it when it's live. |
| Do I need to send Korat my gateway API key? | No, and never do this — see the section above. |
| Will my existing PromptPay setup disappear once a gateway is live? | No, it keeps working as-is. A gateway is an additional option. |
| Does Korat take a percentage of sales made via PromptPay/bank transfer? | No — money goes to the shop directly, never through Korat. |
